CLODAGH THORNTON

Clodagh Thornton is a fifth generation Dubliner, born and bred. She has always had a focus and a concern for nature and the environment. She studied Fine Art at the Dun Laogaire College of Art and Design and Etching at the Hammersmith College of Art. A founder member of Artcore her work may be seen in private collections in Ireland, Spain, Germany and the United States.

She has collaborated with Spanish artist Saturio Alonso on numerous projects, including "An Exact Sience", and "Garran", the most recent of which was grant-aided by the Arts Council Of Ireland and was held in Siamsa Tire Tralee.

Thornton's most frequently used materials are oil paint, canvas, paper, carborundum, copper and etching materials.

Clodagh is currently working in Andalucía, drawing inspiration from the extensive examples of Arte Rupestre (Prehistoric Art) to be found in the region. She has taken part in several of Jimena de la Fontera's Festival of the Arts.

Her one-man shows include: Kilkenny Civic Offices, The Butler Gallery in Kilkenny, TheCarroll Gallery in Longford and Listowel Writers' Week. Group shows include: Waterford Arts Centre; Siamsa Tire Tralee; The Botanic Gardens in Dublin; Hugh Lane Municipal Gallery, Dublin; The Royal Hospital Kilmainham, Dublin; and The Project Arts Centre, Dublin.

Other projects include: Kilkenny Print Studio; Artcore Artists' Co-operative; Fior Uisce Art Group; Botanic Gardens Dublin; and Artists' Residency at The Botanic Gardens Dublin Artists' Residency, which culminated in various show and workshops including the Ramus exibition at the Hugh Lane Municipal Gallery, Dublin.

Clodagh Thornton has been visiting Jimena de la Frontera for a number of years, eventually setting up a home-away-from-home here.
