PRÁXEDES GÓMEZ

(Open Studios 4 on map)

Práxedes Gómez López, born in Jimena in 1968, is a self-taught artist. However, his paintings and drawings have evolved thanks to his constant search for innovation, yet constantly remaining faithful to his personal style.

Práxedes heads the family business, as a locksmith and blacksmith, which skills he applies to his artwork. Having recently attended some workshops on engraving, he now draws directly on to metal, which are not used for prints, but are in themselves the work of art. The tools of his trades are what allow him to work in a variety of metals.

Gómez is a reluctant exhibitor and it takes a lot of persuasion for him to show in public, although he obtains commissions frequently. His family, friends and critics have nevertheless managed to insist on his taking part in the Festival of the Arts as well as Open Studios.
