JILL ADESIGBIN

Almost an ‘occasional’ painter, as she says, Jillian now paints full time at her home and studio in Jimena. Born in England, she first studied art at the Manchester High School of Art, going on later to read Fine Arts at Manchester Regional College. After graduating from here she went on to teach for many years, abandoning her own canvasses for this period. However, she took up her brushes again in the 1980s, winning several awards almost immediately. Among these was the prestigious Manchester Academy of Art major award she won in 1990. The paintings exhibited here are the work mainly of the last eight years, most of which she carried out in Jimena. Many of them have been shown at local and regional galleries, including Gibraltar’s annual International Art Exhibition.

Jillian has known the village for over twenty years, and came to live here some ten years ago. “I love the marvellous light there is here,” comments Jillian, in common with many other painters of the area. That same light helps her to carry out portraits and commissions that are much in demand.
