Exhibit at 2015 Festival of the Arts
Pat Fender Lucas was born in London but her family soon moved to the Kent countryside. She graduated in Design and Fine Arts at Maidstone Art College and she also carries a degree in Art Design Education from West of England Art College, Bristol. During that period, Lucas developed a particular interest in landscapes, although she also developed her portraiture talent.

Pat taught at several secondary schools in Britain for twelve years and held exhibitions around the country, moving to Spain in 1972 to dedicate herself to her art.

For many years, she has captured the beautiful scenery around Jimena de la Frontera in her drawings and paintings. She moved to South Africa, however, in 1974, where she spent three years working on her abstract art. Inspiration came to her through the sea and the vast expanses of that country.

Returning to Jimena in 1977, and settling on the outskirts in Marchenilla, where she continues to have an intense relationship with the land, particularly in the springtime. Her work is in numerous private collections.

Lucas says that she has adopted a manner of painting that tries to capture the immediacy and freshness of local flowers, using strong colours and light outlines in order to reflect the sunlight of Spring. Her style is predominately realist.
